OUT OF ZION 019 | THE NEED TO BREAK THE TREND
“… ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” Josh 1:11
Change is a breaking off with the trend to produce the future.
The charge last week pointed to the need for change. Change is an act or process through which something becomes different; it is the substitution of one thing for another. The order in life is the process of making things different as nothing is meant to be static. If life itself is a process of change, how much more should the experience in life be. Change is the process of one thing giving way for another either through a process of alteration or modification of the existing or by the introduction of a completely new or refreshingly different experience. It is the transition of the living from one phase of its life to another 2 Cor. 3:18
Change is important if your Jordan will be crossed. Do not forget that Jordan signifies the obvious barrier between you and your promise. The instruction given to the Israelites to make provisions for themselves has to do with making preparations, adjustments, changes that will leave the past behind for them to cross over into the promise. Last week I shared with you that to cross the Jordan, you will need to move; make preparation for new things; pursue the real essence of your person or of your existence – which in actual sense is truly ahead; and adjust so as not to fall behind.
My emphasis this week is on the application of the process of change as seen in the biblical significance of three days. Whatever the current issue is with you, if you can bury this person that you are gratifying, you will see a brand new you coming out. There are different levels of experience with God that you may have not even imagine the one awaiting you yet. Israel was to get ready to cross over Jordan in three days. Three days will be enough to evolve a new and ready people if they will go through the process.
Change is a breaking off with the trend to produce the future. Trend has never produced the future, change does. For every system built by man, a pattern of action or existence is only established. Have you noted that such patterns are always broken either by update or by transition to another? Have you noticed that, even in the normal human society, change is birthed when trend is broken?
Everything in life would be monotonous and boring if change is not permitted. If the society would use change even when it has no goal just to kill boredom how much more when there is a future requiring a change. You need a change to get a different result. It is only the fools that continue with the same thing while expecting a different result.
Change happens when you have become tired of the trend or the status quo. No trend is broken until it has reached its climax. The climax of a trend does not come until the trend has saturated the ecosystem. Trend is only broken when you have had enough of it or when you begin to see a problem with it.
In spiritual matters, God steps in to instruct or direct with imperatives when you are not realising that the time for change has set in. He spoke to Joshua emphatically and by extension to Israel when the season for change rolled in. Israel by implication was told to get ready and make provision for what was ahead, for in three days something new should begin. Trend will be broken when the process of change is engaged.
