Man’s life should not be directed by the material things he has appetite for, it should be governed by every instruction from God. Obedience to God’s word will put order into your life.

In spite of people’s stubbornness and complaints, God in his grace still make provision of them.

He supplied the need of Israel despite their complaints. It was a daily provision except on the day before the sabbath. It was a basis for testing them whether they will walk in divine direction.

God went ahead to show them the new works to confirm what He did in the past, in redeeming them out of Egypt – Ex 16:6; I do not think this was necessary at all, for if I gave you a gift yesterday, would I need to give you another to confirm that I gave you something yesterday? The graciousness of God was at work in spite of their obstinacy. He visited them with His kindness again to manifest His glory – Ex 16:7; and to confirm to them whom He is – Ex 16:12

He miraculously supplied them with quails in the evening and manna (meaning ‘what is it?’) in the morning. He instructed them to gather according to their need, a particular measure for each person, Ex 16:16

They still failed the test as some chose to do things their way. They left of the provision overnight and it bred worms and stank. Ex 16:19-20; some others went out to gather on sabbath without finding. Ex 16:27.

God’s desire is that nothing will ever distract us from Him or His promises. When you stay on His words you are safe and fit through life’s challenges.

The nation of Israel was confronted with another challenge as they moved from Elim to Sin; there was no bread.
Remember that at Marah God wrought a miracle in their favour after the serious need for water by healing the bitter water and that by the time they got to Elim they found much water.
They quickly forgot or simply overlooked what the Lord did before. They complained against the Lord by mounting pressure on Moses and Aaron. In their complaint they celebrated the benefits of seating by the pot of meat and eating bread to the full in Egypt; they even regretted not to have died while in there. In these they failed God by being obstinate.
If you care to know: it makes no sense at all to celebrate the past in which you suffered so much, especially when you have great promises. Attempts like this obscure the future, the devil uses this to deny people of their glorious future.

The material life that you are concerned with is not even the main issue in existence but the health of your soul.

It is important to know that man shall not live by bread alone …., because you will need provisions from day to day, just as it was with them in the wilderness and you will need to, before you get overtaken with the wrong and common culture.

To avoid the trap of the common culture that locks most people into a life of concern about what to eat, drink and put on, you need to know that that the purpose of life is more than those basic necessities for day to day material existence, it has to do with the design of God for your life as expressed to you in His word and by His special guidance in your personal life.

The devil’s strategy is to use these daily material needs or requirements to haunt your soul by building up pressures that will result in fear and anxiety. His aim with this is to impede your progress and possibly get you to complain against God.
God also utilises the needs that confront you from day to day to test your obedience or commitment to Him so as to prove if your heart is truly with Him. How else is the state of your heart proven to you than when things seem to be challenging. He proves your faith with the situations that you find ourselves in.
If this is not known someone might mess up by swallowing the baits from the devil and thus failing God’s tests.

Man’s life is not sustained by the provision he requires or receives; it is sustained by the words spoken by God.

When you go through the wilderness experience and find yourself surrounded by myriads of challenges and pressures, you are likely to be tuned into the survival mode. 
Survival mode is when you are not living the life you are meant to but you are only mindful of seeing your needs met. This is life at the lowest rung of life’s ladder, even according to Maslow’s hierarchy of need. 
The natural belief is that the basic needs must first be met because man can pursue higher purpose, but this is why the greater percentage of human population live at the lowest level of the rung in social ladder. This is the commonest way to live and it is not in accordance with God’s plan. Those who have made serious meaning in life are those who learnt to look beyond the needs to something higher beckoning at them.

God wants us to be purposeful and mindful of the high calling upon your life. I prefer to call it high calling because it is not a scheme structured on earth; it is the plan of God already settled in heaven.
God wants you to know that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word from His mouth. The word bread is used of food or provision in general. Man’s life is not sustained by the provision he requires or receives; it is sustained by the word spoken by God.

You are more than the material body – you are a living soul designed to fulfil particular purposes on earth.

Moses told them the Israelites that the words of God are not idle words; they are life and tool for long life to the recipients (Deut 32:47); the blessing of the word can make a nation great because of the wisdom and the understanding to be gained from it (Deut 4:6).

God wanted Israel to give attention to the words of His mouth; He wanted them to be guided or ordered by His words. If this was their continual disposition, how beautiful will life would have been for them. God does nothing in man’s life without the agency of His all important and powerful word.

The provision of the word is what the blessings of God actually are. The word embraced as life will forbid diseases in the camp of God’s people. The direction that it gives ensures this. It is the word that will distinguish you from others in the world. Moses told them the Israelites that the words of God are not idle words; they are life and tool for long life to the recipients (Deut 32:47); the blessing of the word can make a nation great because of the wisdom and the understanding to be gained from it (Deut 4:6).

You need to know that till today God is still interested in you taking His words seriously, to order your steps with them. When you are so guided, there will be an avenue for grace to abound in your life beyond your comprehension.
